Anna Thorburn

Anna Thorburn is a senior commercial lawyer, with significant in-house and top-tier law firm experience.  Admitted to practice in 2004, Anna has over 14 years’ experience working at top-tier law firms and global companies. Anna is known for being a pragmatic and commercially-astute lawyer. Anna is a strong communicator who is adept at working in fast-paced and agile environments. Anna enjoys what she does and working with teams.

For the last 5 years, Anna was General Counsel of PageUp. PageUp is an Australian-headquartered global ‘Software as a Service’ company.

During her tenure as General Counsel, Anna:

• set up the legal function (having taken on a ‘greenfields’ role);

• supported the business through its global growth into the US, Europe and Asia;

• advised on privacy and data protection requirements in relevant markets (including managing the implementation of EU GDPR compliance);

• advised in relation to an IPO process (2016);

• advised on the sale of a controlling stake of the company to a major global private equity fund (2017);

• advised key divisions within the company including IT, Sales, Talent and Marketing; and

• advised on business, regulatory, legal and commercial issues during a significant multi-jurisdictional data security incident.

Summary of roles

Prior to becoming General Counsel of PageUp:

• Anna worked at top tier law firms from 2004 to 2011, most notably Allens Arthur Robinson (now Allens Linklaters) where she was a Senior Associate in the IP team. Anna worked on transactional, dispute and IP advice matters.

• Anna was Legal Counsel at Kraft Foods, advising the Marketing, Research & Development, Procurement, Corporate Affairs and Regulatory teams, including in relation to the high profile launch of Belvita into the Australian market.
